Beeswax Benefits & Our Candle Making Process

Beeswax is a lovely, golden ingredient in bee hives that provides structure and is made by wax-producing glands in the abdominal segments of worker honeybees. Once delicious honey is extracted from the comb/hive, the wax left behind is fairly clean of debris, quite dense and a bright, beautiful yellow. We clarify the wax with water before melting it into Alpine Bee candles, and add some clean-burning coconut oil to aid the beeswax in melting smoothly.
The light scent of our candles is fresh, clean and slightly sweet, like warmed honey. When burned, beeswax is clean/doesn’t produce soot, and releases negative ions, which attack positive ions emitted by computers, mobile phones, and other electronic devices. Beeswax has a high melting point, which results in long, slow burn times, (see below for approximate burn times). Our scented candles are made with essential oils and essential oil-based, phthalate-free fragrance oils only-no chemicals. We use all-cotton, braided wicks, (zinc and lead-free!), which are coated with a natural vegetable-based coating. That’s it!

Candle Weights, Burn Times, Wick Maintenance & Best Burning Tips

We have weighed and averaged each container size. Since each and every candle is hand poured, slight differences in finished weight may occasionally occur.

Burn times

  • 2 ounce mini tin: 8-10 hours
  • 4 ounce tin: 18-20 hours
  • 8 ounce tin: 22-24 hours
  • 4 ounce recycled glass jar: 18-20 hours
  • 10 ounce recycled glass jar: 45-46 hours

Burn times are averages, they are not guaranteed and will depend upon your burning practices including wick maintenance and wax pooling.

Best Burning Tips: Maintaining wicks properly by trimming to 1/4″ before each burn is the best way to burn your Alpine Bee candles for longer, more even burning and less smoke when extinguished. Burning the candle long enough to establish a wax pool from edge to edge & approximately 1/4" deep will prevent "tunneling." If you dip the lit wick into the wax pool and then lift it back out, the flame will extinguish without smoking!
